Under Construction!

This site is in desperate need of some re-tooling. I am thinking about using Virb for julianneagno.com. Will probably work on it during the long weekend.

In the meantime, if you would like a peek into the random thoughts in my head go to my other Tumblr.

We’re coming to SXSW!
Tumblr is heading out to Austin this month to host a gathering of Tumblr developers, a party for our industry friends, and a huge meetup for all! This year’s conference is going to be the best yet, and we’re incredibly happy to be able to take part.
Are you planning to be there, too? Let us know and we’ll send you more details soon!

San Francisco

Work sent me to San Francisco for the a social media conference at the beginning of February. It was a great experience but I have to admit I was terrified at first. My manager sent me to my very first conference on my own without much guidance. I didn’t know much about what goes on at conferences other than you listen to speakers talk about their specialties and ways to improve upon your business.

It was a great exerience - I learned plenty at the conference and I had a chance to explore a city I’ve never been to before (I visited SF when I was younger but it was for a day so it didn’t count). Here are a few takeaways:

  • Differences between owned, earned, and paid media
  • Don’t mess with the power of mommy bloggers
  • Run promotions that are simple, social, and illicit a passionate interest
  • Shark Week is a great example of integrating a social media with tv viewing, thus social tv viewing
  • Twitter ROI isn’t about numbers, it’s about mindshare
  • Dunkin Donuts has an awesome Facebook page. Learn from it.
  • The majority of the people in SF who ride the cable cars are tourists
  • There are so many homeless people that live in downtown - only give money to nice and/or funny ones
  • I didn’t see much grass in SF. Spent the entire 2.5 days I was there wondering where dogs pottied.
  • 2 out of the 3 cab drivers I met were Filipino
  • There are so many restaurants next to each other it was hard to choose where to eat
  • The smallest sushi restaurant I’ve been to in Houston has been Oishii. In SF, one sushi restaurant I went to only had 6 tables.

There are probably more things I can put down but it’s getting late and I have to be at work super early tomorrow. SXSW is coming up! The managers of my company are going but they’re not taking me to the Interactive portion. I will be there during the Music though :)

Ad agency sites as seen from an iPhone = embarrassing.

we had a mobile marketing meeting yesterday where we talked about how companies need to start making their websites more mobile friendly because web browsing is becoming more and more obsolete.^^ perfect example. also quite ironic considering those are interactive ad agencies.
